Traveling and Health

The topic of the second oral test are from units 9 and 10 from the Breakthough Plus book. Unit 9 is adventure to another country or places or just having an adventure. Unit 10 is all about going to see the doctor and telling the doctor what's the problem.

The task is students will find a partner and create a conversation. The A person will play a traveler and The B person will play two characters: a friend and the doctor. 

For example, a person is going to Korea and ate too much kimchi. Kimchi is an unusual food for the traveler because she might not have kimchi for her entire meal. Now, this is the time that the person must go to see the doctor. Students need to use vocabulary words from units 9 and 10.

Vocabularies from unit 9 "Adventures"

Adventures: horseback riding, hang gliding, mountain biking, water-skiing, skydiving, hot-air ballooning, scuba diving, sailing, etc.

Countries: America, Europe, France, Australia, New Zealand, etc.

Adjectives: confused, disappointed, frightened, relaxed, worried, etc.

Vocabularies from unit 10 "Health"

Symptoms: the flu, a cough, a cold, a toothache, be stressed out, a headache, sore eyes, a backache, a sunburn, a fever, a sprained ankle, stomach ache, a sore throat, problems sleeping, asthma, infection, insect bite, upset stomach, aching muscles, etc.

Remedies: drink a lot of water, go to the dentist, go to the doctor, lie down, stay in bed, take aspirin, take some medicine, take some vitamin, try to relax, use lotion, take antibiotics, use eye drops, use inhaler, drink a lot of liquid, take a hot bath, etc.

Second Oral Test 2014 (J1) "Adventure"

Here is your task for your second oral test, April 28 - May 6, 2014

Task:
1. You are going to be a travel agent, you are going to create
a week long travel itinerary of your ideal trip. You are
going to advertise your trip.
2. You can choose a place / places where you want to go, 
length of time, budgets, transportation they are going to 
use, etc.
3. You are going to make a travel brochure. 

Vocabulary:

Transportation:
Taxi, cable car, cruise, ship, helicopter, RV, kayak, sailboat, skateboard, subway, underground, jey ski, in-line skate, convertible, hot air balloon, blimp, motorcycle, scooter, etc.

Lodging:
Guest house, campsite, hostel, hotel, motel, homestay, dormitory, etc.

J2A Oral Test Breakthrough Plus

Junior Two are using the Breakthrough plus units 7 and 9. They are doing the oral test on food and they have to build their own recipe. They have to present it in front of the class. They can make a PPT with pictures only and they have to say ingredients and preparation.

Oral Task:
Two people in one group, create a recipe and present it in front of the class. They have to use vocabulary words from units 7 and 8. Two minutes each group.

Junior One Oral Test 2014

The oral test for junior one of this year is "Ordering at the Restaurant." They are three people in one class and they have to make a conversation how to order at the restaurant in a second language. One student will be the waitress and the other two students are the customers.

Oral Task:
With a partner, make a menu and build a conversation (between a waitress and a customer) using the sentences and vocabulary in the lesson. Next, present it in front of the class. One minute each person or 10 sentences each.

Grading criteria: Menu 10 pt, conversation 20 pt. Total of 30 points.

Today is our school's birthday. Everyone in our school is really happy today, stduents did not even want to study, they want to have fun. In the afternoon, we will have a big program, some stduents will dance and perform. All of us are reall happy. The song of today is from the Taiwanese pop music 伍思凱, the song is 生日快樂 (happy birthday).

Patrol Control Week!

It is the seventh week, it is my turn already. I am the patrol control at my school. I need to control students' traffic line when they go home. 30 minutes standing outside, just looking at the students.

Testing Week!

Today is the testing time at my school. I am very relaxing here because I am waiting for my turn to monitor the exam. I will see who is cheating.... ha ha ha...

Nobody In Chinese

The Korean group "Wonder Girls" are very famous with their song "Nobody." They are not even famous in Taiwan, but through whole Asia continent. Because everybody likes thier song, they create the song nobody in Mandarin Chinese. Here is the video clip in Chinese.

Twilight

I promissed my junior twos (eight graders) after finishing oral test, I will show them the movie Twilight. I still keep my promise. I finished the last unit of the book and the test for my class, two weeks before the final test. They are so excited today and they still remember what I told them. They started to watch the movie today. It will take three days of class time to finish the movie.

This is my Junior One class j. I really enjoy teaching them daily. They are very sweet and very understandable people. Even they are very noisy and active, it is hard to deal wirh them sometimes, but most of the time, I enjoyed their company.

Sheng Kung's Birthday

Early in the morning around 7:40 A.M. the entire school were listen to the Principal's talk. We cannot do the assembling because of H1N1 virus.

The school General Affairs' office made the cake for whole school. All staff members, students, nuns and other workers they have a piece of cake.

The cake smells good and taste so good.

Everybody are so busy over here cutting the cake. They have to measure the cake and cut it.
It is so funny to see people who are cutting the cake. This year of school's birthday is so special. We have a cake and candies. As year before, we had performance. This year we do not have any performances, but we enjoying eating the cake. Even the cake is just a little piece, but we enjoyed it a lot.

School also prepared a nice lunch for everyone. They prepared special food for not only for teacher but also for students. All the teachers will go to the school history room to have the lunch. This is really a special day.

After lunch, it is torture time for us, we have teachers' workshop.

The workshop time is around 1:30 P.M. After lunch there's no time to take a rest, so we had worksho right away. The worst part is that the guest speaker did not motivate teachers to listen, most of the teacher felt asleep.

Two hours of seatting at the conference room, I did not know what was the speaker's talk.

Some of them can listen very well, and some of them are just not listening. This was the worst workshop in my whole teaching life.

Classes Canceled

I often got papers like this. they will tell me which class is cancel today or next time. Now, we have a lot of H1N1 case here in our school. Not all of the classes have, some of them have in one week or two. Since, we have so many classes, it is possible to get H1N1 virus anytime.

H1N1 Case

More paper work for H1N1. I have 10 Junior Ones (7th graders) and three junior twos(8th graders). Each of these classes can be one case of fever or H1N1. If one or two students have fever, the teacher who is teaching that class has to fill out forms like this. Also the teacher have to take a temperature daily.

I have so many forms each day. the forms cannot even finish. I cannot even finishing filling these forms. Everyday is a new case.

I have to fill out my personal information and daily temperature in my body. I have to do it for 7 days. Also, I have to measure the temperature twice a day. One in the morning and another one in the afternoon. After a week, I have to give the form to the school and the school will handle to the ministry of health department in Tainan.

H1N1

With H1N1 in Taiwanese society it is very dangerous. The PTA parents of the school gave us a bottle of H1N1 prevention.
